Expedition #2
Expedition #2 started on June 15, 2019. It began with a much needed vacation that I had saved up for. I met a friend from home in Vienna, Austria. For 9 days we explored Vienna and Salzburg. It was awesome and a complete blast. After he left, I got to work and began networking in Vienna on my own. Here is my debrief on the entire trip.
1st Leg: Vienna, Austria
My purpose in Austria was networking. The Austrian government has stated that they wish to work with the Chinese One Belt One Road initiative. So, I was also hoping to educate churches there about the future influx of Asian expats.
In Austria, I encounter intense spiritual malaise. I didn’t know if it was from loneliness or something else. The entire week I was on my own there was an uphill battle.
Yet, I was able to connect with two local pastors who shared some great insights into both Austrian and refugee populations in the city.
After a week, I was ready to move eastward. Next stop: Kazakhstan!
2nd Leg: Kazakhstan
At the request of my host, I can’t say where I was in Kazakhstan.
I was in the country on my own for about a week. I spent the week exploring the cultural (but not political) capital of the country. Then I met with my host for my last few days in country and we went to his home.
I got to meet his team and learn of their ministry struggles. At the end of my time there, we had all become brothers.
As an aside, I also visited an international school while in the country and entertained the idea of working there in the future. Who knows what tomorrow brings?
3rd Leg: Kathmandu, Nepal
Kathmandu really has become a second home. I feel at ease and relaxed here. I will definitely be using it as a regional base of operations one day.
My purpose here was to preach at a YWAM Discipleship Training School on the Character and Nature of God. I spent 5 days relaxing and praying for the conference.
Then, I traveled to the YWAM base and was there for the conference. It was an amazing time. Getting to see young minds grasp the gospel and truly understand it was thrilling.
My time ended with me deeply loving and caring for the students I got to teach.
After the conference, I headed back to Kathmandu and stayed a day in the city doing some last minute sight-seeing and then was on a plane back for Taiwan the next morning.
By July 30 I was back in Taipei, Taiwan and resting. We began school activities very soon after arrival. It began a very tough and trying school year however I was extremely satisfied with how things went down and am looking forward to the next expedition!
Please pray for future ministry along the Silk Road!
