Photography and Videography as Mission Part Two

I made two "travel" videos of my hometown in Dallas. Within a week of posting to YouTube, I already had some copyright strikes against me. Turns out, you can't steal music. Ouch.

Sarcasm aside, that really did hurt to get those strikes. I was just starting out and had no idea about how to pick music for video and about copyrighted music. Understandable mistakes. Even still, I wanted to do more.

About four months later, I went on a trip to Arkansas for a campout. Before the campout, I spent a few days in Little Rock and filmed for another video. It was awesome. Loved every moment. In all honesty, that trip is the reason I'm here right now. I climbed a mountain and it was a watershed moment for me. I'll post about that another time.

So, after an amazing trip to Arkansas, imagine my dread when I got home and realized that I had not recorded enough B-Roll. When I edited the footage I had together, it was disjointed and didn't flow well. That video never got made. Another rookie mistake. I actually think a good subtitle for this time in my life could be "Mistakes and Lessons" because that's all that was happening.

Maybe someday I will work on posting parts of that video. Who knows. I came away from 2017 with two clear truths:
1. I wanted to live abroad and do missions.
2. I wanted to pursue photo and video work as a future means of income.

That leads me to today. I'm working on my photography everyday with my new DSLR, getting the equipment I need for good video, and taking shots everyday. My hope is that by the end of 2018 I will be submitting work to possible clients. Please pray that I can develop an online business enough so that by the time my two year contract with my school is up I will have enough to keep going.

Back to my usual post style next week!

May the Lord bless you and keep you,
may He make his face shine upon you,
and may He give you peace.

That's all for now travelers.
See you next time!
